THE first post.

So, for the first blog post...

After multiple attempts at creating blogs in the past, I am determined to stick to this one! Seriously. I think I've tried this maybe twice in the past few years, but I was never determined enough to stick to it. So, in New-Year's-resolution-style (but not, because it's obviously halfway through the year), I have decided to stay committed to this blog no matter how epically it might fail. Gotta admit that my inspiration for starting up this blog is pathetic... I saw Julie & Julia not too long ago... yeah, no comment. But, if it got me to this point, I guess it can't be that bad.

Anyway. If anyone's reading this post, please remember it's only my first post, okay? Don't judge. Hah. No, you can judge, I won't mind.

So, I guess in my first blog, I'll share a little about myself. I am a college student (off on summer break at the moment!) pursuing a career in education. As of now, I'm contemplating getting rid of all of my crap... seriously, I could barely fit everything into my car when moving out of the dorms recently. But, something's holding me back. My mom's always called me a pack rat. And maybe that's true. Actually, I'm pretty sure it is. Especially since I'm studying to become a teacher. It's like I keep anything and everything I think I might be able to use in my future classroom. I mean, we all know that elementary school teachers and early childhood teachers don't get paid nearly enough! So, I figure it's worthwhile to stock up and think about the needs of my future classroom!! :) But, in all seriousness, I would really like to get rid of all this stuff I've acquired, but can't seem to part with.

I've always admired and wanted to join those living minimalistic lives. A few years ago, one of the most inspirational books I've ever read, describes just that. It's called The Irresistible Revolution, by Shane Claiborne. It's a story of a group of Christians living in Philadelphia, pursuing lives of justice and love. I plug this book anytime I get the chance, so it's not really that weird that it seemed to find its way into this blog post. Anyway, hopefully after some thoughtful consideration in these upcoming weeks, and through re-prioritizing things in my life, I will come to a place where I'm able to just let go of all the unnecessary things I've held onto and have allowed to clutter up my life.

So, yeah. Had no clue I was going to include all of this in my blog, but there it is! :) Hopefully, I'll be able to be this open in later posts, allowing whoever is reading this a small glimpse into my head and heart.

Thanks for reading this. Don't know if it applies to you in any way, rings some bells, or if you have anything to say to what I've written today. If so, and if you're comfortable, feel free to comment.

  1. Oh yeah, I keep hearing all these references to Julie and Julia so maybe some day I'll figure it out.

And yeah, stuff -- I try to keep only what I know I'm going to need, but that is most everything for the past 62 years. Finding stuff is the problem. Some people are organized. I'm not.

Anyway, welcome to Blogland, and good luck with the career.

    Best regards, Don and Kitty
